Writer and producer Shonda Rhimes is probably best known for being the creative mind behind the hit medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy.” Having recently signed a major contract with Netflix, she has put her grandiose L.A. mansion on the market with an asking price of $25 million.
The home is located in the ritzy neighborhood of Hancock Park. It is actually at least the third home she has owned in the area, having sold another one in 2019 for approximately $7.2 million.
The house stands at around 11,700 square feet. The gated property is approximately one acre and also holds several other structures. In the main home, there are seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and three half-baths. Ms. Rhimes purchased the home in 2014 for $8.8 million and has made some additions of her own, including adding skylights and a two-story gallery at the back of the home.
The house is built in an Italianate villa style. It was originally constructed in 1923 by architect Elmer Grey, who also designed such L.A. landmarks as the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Wattles Mansion. The European influence shines through in every element of the home’s design from the numerous French windows to the manicure gardens to the intricate moulding.
The upper level of the home features six ensuite bedrooms. The main suite comes with a sitting room, dressing room, and its own fireplace. Across the home there are a total of eight fireplaces, several of which Ms. Rhimes had restored using historic materials.
In addition to the main house, there is also a guest home and a hair salon. Other amenities include a pool, a theatre, and a three-car garage.
